Headquartered in Dayton, Ohio, CareSource was founded in 1989 as a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide low cost insurance to underserved and low income residents of Ohio.
Today, CareSource is the largest Medicaid plan in Ohio, and the second largest in the U.S. CareSource offers health insurance plans to two million members in Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, North Carolina, and West Virginia.
They offer Medicare plans, Medicaid plans, and Health Insurance Marketplace plans. CareSource plans utilize a network of doctors, nurses, mental health professionals, and other healthcare providers to serve their members and keep costs low.
With an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion, CareSource supports and sponsors community projects, such as food banks and food distribution programs, community wellness day events, and summer health camps for children. They also give grants to social service agencies that support projects focused on reducing poverty and homelessness.
Does CareSource Cover Drug Rehab and Addiction Treatment?
All of the plans CareSource offers fall under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) so they all have at least some coverage for 10 essential health benefits, including mental health and addiction treatment.
Substance abuse treatment options will differ according to the type of policy chosen, and copays may apply. Sometimes limitations on certain services will apply. That’s why it’s important to verify coverage before you commit to a treatment program. Depending on your plan you may also need a referral from your doctor and/or preauthorization to get the coverage you need.

This place is a great place to go if you need help with substance abuse or just mental health as well. When I went, I unfortunately didn’t take it very seriously but the people that did take it seriously have been very successful. Kyler was a great mentor while I was there, and he along with the other techs all seem very genuine and honest and willing to help in anyway they can. I am extremely grateful for this place, as well as Kyler especially. I don’t think I would be where I am today without him as a mentor.
The clinicals were great smaller groups and the teachers have real life experience! Staff makes the place. Great food and you can vape!

Stop researching treatment centers because this one is hands down the best!! I've been to several treatment centers and The Ridge is in a league of their own- for all the good reasons! Yes, it is a beautiful home like atmosphere with a lot of luxuries and outstanding food but the main reason I found The Ridge so helpful to me was the loving and supportive staff and amazing program. And the support doesn't stop when you leave! I enrolled in IOP and am plugged into the many alumni events they host. My recovery community is filled today with Ridge Alum and I owe my recovery to the tools I learned at The Ridge and all the continue support I get from them.

The Ridge is an incredible place to go to for treatment. They keep you plenty busy with group therapy sessions as well as 1 on 1 sessions with a councilor, and there are lots of things to do during recreation time. I’m grateful I was able to find a treatment center with staff that truly care about me and work to foster a friendly environment among all patients. If you’re looking for help I can think of no better place to go to than the Ridge for residential treatment.
This place will forever have a special spot in my heart. The employees saved my life every single day for 30 days. The therapists are also something to not overlook, they go WAY above and beyond to educate what's really going on with our minds and body. I've been through 4 recovery centers, two in Kentucky one in California and then this one. This is the only one I can truly say that they take this lifestyle seriously and the presence of a higher power flows through every body in the house. I wouldn't recommend any other place. Thank you for everything staff! I won't forget a single one of you.

I have been to this treatment centers at least 3 times and the e town facility twice. I ve been to treatment as a controlled environment for this program over 40 times. But for 7 months through an implant in my ear I have had to listen to 2 or 3 people in my ear for 24/7 mostly about my ex boyfriend who the program hired to mess with me as well. Every treatment center and sober living I have been in for 7 years has participated all my so called friends, family, even bf were brought into it. I m harassed about every trauma or horrible experience they could create or find out about. This was a good place but I hit 4 treatment centers in 4 weeks because they went too far stressing me with the voices in my ear canal as well as the clients and staff they recruited to play games while my thoughts broadcasted to the people around me. For the government to issue whatever for hips to be violated and them to enter a rehab for research grounds or court order is all that could do it. It s been 17 years of nastiness especially the last 7 years but they hired my bf to leave me and play games with me so the voices in my ear could non stop torture me with him and how he took a job to leave me. The truth is they have had me isolated and single for 17 years and they had to get me lit and him away from me to be able to do this stressed out miserable research on me. So they brought him into the group payed to monitor me to get him away and make me feel miserable and isolated and they make sure I know it was about money from my boyfriend or ex I guess since I get a vague wish washy text ever 2 to 3 days to string me along so they can keep torturing me about him.how much money did it take. Why after I find someone after 17 years did you destroy it? Thanks for your part Stepworks London this was the second fight in 4 centers I had been to in 4 weeks. Crown was playing and Lackey and SouthShore RW in the past 6 weeks this program was even brought into the AA meetings I attended and my Clinicians were up to it too

The best treatment center I've ever seen the staff are knowledgeable be on your wildest dreams
The food is top notch and the counselor's are respectful and the medical staff knows how to make things easier
I've been going here for 6months and before that I was at the VA. There's a few differences between them both but most of all I can tell the Care. I have had 2 Counselors which is understandable considering the work load they have. Since the begining I have been happy and impressed how easy they made my transferring. I started just where I left off at the VA.The only thing I don't agree with or understand is when getting an increase u have to pick up for 3days before getting ur tak homes. I can understand this policy when u a starting out. But it doesn't make much sense after that. I can also say when there was a problem with my pick up (ther Mistake) my councler fixed and had all my bottles in 30mins. All I can say is If u work the program it works. Thank you

This is the only MAT program clinicnive ever been to but they have been amazing. If you are serious about your recovery they most definitely are going to help you. I've had a couple friends go to other clinics and from what was said FCCR is more strict and that's so important. Especially if you are serious about your recovery and do really want to better yourself and your life. The office staff is amazing there. The nurses are wonderful. I've had 3 different counselors due to 2 of them moving on to better their lives, but every counselor I have had has been wonderful. Very helpful. Easy to talk to. Thank you FCCR for being there and helping me better myself and my life. "It works if you work it"

IT'S A GREAT PLACE IF YOU'RE SERIOUS ABOUT REMAINING SUBSTANCE FREE. MY COUNSELOR IS THE BOMB!!
It was a great program and it helped me restore my relationships with friends and family. I've made a whole new group that i can depend. Jeff Lazzaro is a big part of my recovery and the whole staff at First City, these people who work there really do care and will go out of there way too help. I'll always be grateful for First City and all the staff that helped me along the way!

I was only here for two weeks and left on my own, but this place did so much for me in that time and I ll never be able to thank them enough. Is this place perfect? Far from it, a lot of tweaks they will need to make in time. The biggest highlight of the place is the staff, for the most part, just about everyone that works there has been through it, and you can tell they actually care.I can t remember everyone s names, but shoutout to all the techs, Kari and Cameron were wonderful to me, to the nursing staff, Chad and Chantel, The facilitators, therapists, AND THE COOKS! Everyday I was there, I felt spoiled getting to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Mya and Mike were wonderful. My only major gripe about the place is the director of the facility. He needs to hold himself to a higher standard and stop talking to clients the way he does. I feel everyone there has Stockholm syndrome when it comes to that guy and makes all types of excuses for him.Last but not least, thank you to Sarah which is a group leader/therapist. She was the shining star of that establishment. The stuff she has been through and the fact that she comes to work everyday motivated to help the people there is nothing short of admirable/inspiring. I wasn t sure about her at first and she quickly grew to be my favorite. God bless her. This is a great place, and if you read and listen to any review, have it be mine.

I came to First City Recovery Center to get help with my bipolar, BPD and OCD. It has been the greatest experience of my life. The food, the accommodations and everything related to living there was amazing. My case manager, my therapist, the group facilitators, the techs and the chefs were beyond incredible. I highly recommend First City Recovery Center to anyone dealing with mental health issues and drug and alcohol addiction.
Great place. Wonderful staff. Very attentive to you as an individual. More than just clinical needs. Clean facility. Plenty of food and a very eclectic mix of both patients and staff. Had a good 30 days here and would recommend it in a heartbeat.

AppleGate is a safe friendly environment to begin your treatment process. Some recovery center her in Dayton do not have your best interest in mind, just in the recovery business for the money, but here at AppleGate it s a small family oriented staff who are in the recovery business for the right reasons. Some of the staff have been through recovery themselves and can relate to your situation without prejudice or a feeling of being judged. They are here willing to help you pull through this storm and take back you life that you deserve. Love yourself enough to get help, even if you feel no one else dose. You are worth the time and effort, learn to love yourself again because they will hold your hands till the storm subsides and the sun shines again.

5 stars! The staff here is great they genuinely care and go the extra mile to make sure patients are cared for. Amy is always smiling and friendly when I come in, Paula and April and lisa are always attentive and helpful! I recommend applegate to anyone seeking a personalized recovery plan for them.
I came here for courtesy dose in August and again in November. They are great there! If I move out here this is the clinic I definitely would go here. The price for just 7 days of methadone was $140!! This is the 2 nd time I paid this price for a week. We don t have much money we are trying to get our lives back and this is a life or death medication for us.The methadone is way overpriced here, while it is not an expensive drug from the pharmacy.

Frequently Asked Questions
CareSource Health Insurance Plans
CareSource offers individual and family plans through the Health Insurance Marketplace plans, Medicaid plans, and other specialty options. Not all plans are available in all states.
Individual and family plans are divided by “metal tier”, which helps you understand how much coverage they offer. A Bronze plan will have the lowest monthly premium but only cover 60% of the cost of care. A Gold plan has a higher premium and covers 80% of the cost of care. A Silver plan is in the middle and covers 70% of care.
Medicaid plans are available from CareSource in Georgia, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. These are designed for lower income families and individuals and often have $0 care, including addiction treatment.
Dual plans help those who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid. These plans help you coordinate these two programs without any confusion about who is covering what care. These are available from CareSource in Michigan, Ohio, Georgia, and Indiana.
Finally, CareSource has insurance plans that help those who qualify for Medicaid and have complex health needs in Arkansas.
What Inpatient Rehab is Covered By CareSource?
Insurance focuses on covering addiction treatment that’s medically necessary, so make sure to work with your doctor to create a treatment plan. The plan will tell you what type of rehab to look for and will show what is medically needed in your specific case.
Many people start with medical detox. The process of letting substances leave your system can be very difficult, and medical detox ensures you have the care you need to manage withdrawal symptoms and stay safe. During the detoxification process, one of three FDA-approved medication-assisted treatment (MAT) medications–methadone, buprenorphine, or naltrexone–are typically used. Detox usually lasts 10 days or less. During detox you may receive some therapy and help with treatment planning so you’re ready to start the road to recovery.
During inpatient or residential treatment you have a chance to focus entirely on your recovery without any distractions from daily life. You’ll receive individual and group therapy along with holistic treatment that may include meditation, art therapy, and more. You’ll also have recreation options and other activities. The goal is to focus on creating new habits and mindsets that will allow you to live a substance free lifestyle.
Does CareSource Cover Methadone & Suboxone (MAT)?
During outpatient treatment you live at home or in sober living and attend rehab during the day. There are multiple kinds of outpatient care and they have different intensity.
Partial hospitalization programs (PHPs) are also sometimes called day programs. Most PHP sessions last for 4 to 8 hours a day and run three to five days a week. At least 20 hours of treatment per week, over 3 to 4 weeks, is common in PHP programs. Treatments including individual, group, and family counseling, and addiction and relapse prevention education, as well as mental health medication, if needed, are provided.
Intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) typically offer 9 to 20 hours of treatment per week, with the hours spread across 3 to 5 days. 90 days of treatment are usually recommended for IOP treatment.
General outpatient care meets only once or twice a week for about an hour each time. This is generally focused on individual or group therapy and helps you connect to community resources that keep you strong in your recovery goals. There may also be telehealth options where you can attend treatment remotely.
Does CareSource Cover Other Mental Healthcare?
The Affordable Care Act requires most plans to cover both mental health and substance use treatment. But since there are exceptions it’s important that you verify that your plan includes this coverage.
There are a wide variety of mental health treatments that are commonly covered by plans like CareSource. These include intensive treatments like psychiatric hospitalization and crisis stabilization as well as less intensive treatments like outpatient counseling.
It’s common for those who struggle with substance use to also have a mental health diagnosis. If you have co occurring disorders it’s important to treat them together to ensure you are able to establish long term recovery. You can work with your insurance company to find a treatment center that offers this integrated care.
Does Addiction Treatment Need to Be In Network?
Most CareSource plans will require you to get your care from within their provider network but this ultimately depends on your specific type of plan. If your plan type does allow for care from outside their provider network the added freedom will likely come with added costs. The copay and deductible along with the out of pocket maximum are all typically higher in plans that allow you to go out of network for care.
If you can find a high quality provider within the provider network that’s the best way to maximize your insurance coverage and keep your personal costs down.
How to Verify Coverage With CareSource
If you would like to know what treatment providers your plan covers CareSource gives you a couple of ways to check. You can either give them a call on their customer service line or check their service provider directory through their website.
You also have the option to call the service provider who you would like to see and ask them to verify that your benefits cover their services. For the most accurate result use the exact name of your plan when checking your benefits. You can’t just use the company name as CareSource has many different types of plans.
Calls to any general helpline will be answered or returned by a paid advertiser.
By calling the helpline you agree to the terms of use. We do not receive any commission or fee that is dependent upon which treatment provider a caller chooses. There is no obligation to enter treatment.
